History

                   The Government Degree College, Chinturu is a newly established college in the Agency area of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh in 2018 with an aim to cater to the educational needs of the tribal students of Chinturu, Kunavaram, Vara Ramachandra Puram and Yetapaka mandals and also to provide milieu for learning thereby to lead a better life. The area is originally belongs to Khammam district of Telangana State after bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh but was transferred back to Andhra Pradesh in order to facilitate the polavaram multipurpose project.


       While some of the NGOs and individuals have worked for upliftment of tribals, no comprehensive action has been initiated in the area. With this thought in mind the government of Andhra Pradesh has decided to establish a Higher Education Institution in Chinturu. This initiation not only improves literacy rate among the tribals but also safe guards the tribal traditions, customs and culture while offering modern education.

      With this objective, The Government Degree College, Chinturu affiliated to Adikavi Nannaya University has started functioning from the Academic year 2018-19 with four conventional under graduate programs viz. B.A (Economics, History, Political Science), B.Com (Gen), B.Sc. (Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry), B.Sc. (Botany, Zoology and Chemistry). In the year 2021, B.Sc. (Botany, Chemistry and Horticulture) was introduced. The college has well qualified and experienced faculty members.
